& FAQs

LASH EXTENSIONS AFTERCARE & FAQs

We recommend keeping your new lashes away from warm temperatures for the first 48 hours, including hot showers, steam rooms, facial steamers and sun beds.

It is not a good idea to put mascara on your lash extensions. You should also avoid getting oil, eye and face cream or make up on (or near) the extensions.

When cleaning your lashes, do so as gently as possible to avoid pulling them out accidentally. Vigorous rubbing could also result in loss of some of your natural lashes too. The best cleanser to use on your lashes is water-based make-up remover.

To keep your lashes tidy, use a clean mascara wand to brush them daily.

If possible, don’t sleep face down as this can damage the lashes or cause them to drop off.

Infills are a good way to keep your lashes looking great for longer. Every two to three weeks (or whenever you require it) you can book in for a lash top up.

Your lashes will last longer when cleaned daily with our Luxury Lash Bath, which removes dirt and dissolves oil. We sell it in the Lash Muse salon.

HOW LONG WILL MY EXTENSIONS LAST?

Provided that you look after your lashes according to our aftercare instructions, we expect them to last for between 6 and 8 weeks. Note that after 6 weeks, as you near the end of a natural hair cycle, some of your natural lashes will start to drop out - so the extensions attached to those will also fall out.

At this point you may want to book in for some infills. Alternatively, getting infills every 2 – 3 weeks keeps your extensions looking their best.

CAN LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?

The answer is no, provided that they are properly applied by a well-trained, skilled lash artist. All of our artists are thoroughly trained and very experienced, so there is no need to worry that your natural lashes will be damaged. At Lash Muse we take lash health very seriously.

CAN I GET LASH EXTENSIONS IF I HAVE SPARSE EYELASHES?

The truth is that almost anyone can get lash extensions – even people with very short or sparse natural lashes. A consultation is carried out at the start of every full lash set with us, we will make recommendations based on the current state of your natural lashes, as well as your lifestyle. The consultation ensures that both you and our lash artist are on the same page so that we can give you the exact look you’re aiming for.

AFTER INFILLS APPOINTMENTS MY LASHES VARY IN FULLNESS AND THICKNESS. WHY IS THAT?

This is all down to your natural hair growth cycles. On average, the lash growth cycles lasts for between 9 and 12 weeks. At the end of the cycle you’ll start to shed some, so it really depends on when you book in for your infill appointment. Your lashes could be at different stages of the growth cycle from appointment to appointment, and sometimes there will be less hair available for us to adhere the extensions to.

Generally we lose between 3 and 5 lashes every day, but you could notice this more when there is an extension attached to the lash that falls.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE MY LASH EXTENSIONS?

It is important not to try and remove lash extensions by yourself, as it will be very easy for you to damage your natural lashes. If you want to remove them, it is better too book in with us so that we can carefully remove them for you. Our trained technicians are very capable of removing extensions without damaging your lashes, and they use only the best products to dissolve the bonding agent.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN MY LASH EXTENSIONS?

Cleaning your lash extensions with the right products is paramount if you want your lashes to last. This means that you’ll need to keep dirt and oils away from them, and the best way to do so is with Luxury Lash Bath, which you can purchase from our salon.

The recommended cleansing method:

  • Pump the cleanser onto your lashes

  • Use the lash brush or your fingertips to massage the cleanser into your lashes in a circular motion, focusing on the lash line

  • Rinse the cleanser off with cold or lukewarm water, then pat your lashes dry gently

  • Separate the lashes by brushing them lightly when they have completely dried

LASH LIFT AFTERCARE & FAQs

  • Do not get water or makeup on or near your lashes for 24 hours after your appointment

  • Only use oil-free makeup removers as these won’t remove the tint

  • Apply Castor Oil to your lashes, as this will keep them moisturised. We sell this at Lash Muse

  • Your lash lift should last for up to 8 weeks, but you can book in for another one from 6 weeks onwards

WILL LASH LIFTS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?

No, lash lifts won’t damage your eyelashes provided that the procedure is done by trained and qualified technicians. All Lash Muse staff are fully trained and qualified so there is no need to worry about damaging your lashes. It is better to space out appointments so that they are 6 weeks apart, and always follow the aftercare advice.

CAN I WEAR MASCARA IF I HAVE A LASH LIFT?

It is fine to wear mascara after a lash lift, but you may not need to because lash lift and tints are designed to make your natural lashes look thicker and longer. If you do want to wear mascara, it is better to wait until 24 hours after the treatment. Please note that normal mascara is preferable to waterproof mascara.

LONDON BROW LAMINATION

AFTERCARE & FAQs

  • Don’t get your brows wet for at least 48 hours after the treatment

  • Don’t go swimming, do any exercise or use a sauna for 24 to 48 hours after the treatment (excess moisture may cause your brows to curl slightly or get frizzy)

  • Don’t put any make-up on your brows for at least 24 hours after the treatment

  • Keep your brows away from excessive heat and direct sunlight

  • Don’t use self-tanning products on your face for a week before and 48 hours after the treatment

  • Don’t apply Retin-A or AHA to the brow area for 72 hours before and after the treatment, nor exfoliate around the area

  • If you notice any stinging or swelling, put a cold compress on your brows and seek medical advice

  • It is best to leave 8 weeks between brow lamination appointments

HOW LONG DOES BROW LAMINATION LAST?

If you follow our recommended aftercare protocol, your brow lamination should last for up to 8 weeks. However, the tint will only last for between 3 and 4 weeks, so you can book in for another tint after this point.

IS IT OK TO GET MY EYEBROWS WET?

We recommend keeping water away from your brows for the first 48 hours, after which point they can be cleansed and manipulated as normal.

We put an aftercare cream on your brows at the end of the appointment, and this should be left to absorb into your brow hairs in order to lock moisture in.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT BROW LAMINATION IS THE RIGHT TREATMENT FOR ME?

If you like the idea of fuller and brushed up eyebrows, or filled in brows, brow lamination is a good choice. The treatment lasts longer than tinting and shaping alone.

DO I NEED A PATCH TEST?

We always recommend doing a patch test to be certain that you won’t have an allergic reaction to any products. Patch tests need to be done at least 48 hours before a treatment, so please book in ahead of your appointment.

MICROBLADING

AFTERCARE & FAQs

For 2 to 14 days after the treatment, the procedure area may experience the following symptoms: Flaking, tenderness, dryness and itching, swelling, redness.

-        If the area does get wet, pat dry very gently with a clean towel or tissue

-        Do not wear conventional makeup for at least a few days

-        Do not tweeze for at least up to a week after the treatment

-    Avoid infection. Do not pick scabs. Only touch the treated areas with squeaky clean hands. DO NOT RUB, SCRATCH OR PICK AT THE TREATED AREA. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring and loss of hair-strokes.

-    Avoid direct shower water on the treated area after the procedure. Apply the aftercare cream sparingly as a barrier to prevent soaps and shampoos from getting on the treated area.

-    Do not expose the area to any extreme temperatures. This includes sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas etc. We recommend keeping your brows protected with a little sun block SPF50 will prolong the life of the pigment.

-    Avoid sleeping on your face during the first 10 days after the procedure.
Try as much as possible to sleep only on your back. It is advised to sleep with your hair pulled up to avoid your hair touching the treated areas.

-    Avoid activities in the first 10 days that will cause you to sweat, i.e excessive exercise, saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms.

-    No swimming until the area is completely healed. Salt and chlorinated water can cause the pigments to fade or change in colour. And there is a risk of infection.

Please Note:

·       The colour will be 50% darker straight after the treatment. It will fade after 4 to 7 days and the true colour will not be visible until the area has completely healed and a time of up to 4 weeks has passed.

·       In order to keep your permanent makeup in perfect condition it may be necessary to have a follow up/retouch appointment every 12 to 14 months, but this will vary with each individual.

·       If you are planning an MRI Scan, Chemical Peel or any similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had permanent cosmetics, to avoid the area completely in facials as these can lighten the pigment.

If you are not sure on something, please don’t hesitate to contact Andrea at Lash Muse.

IS MICROBLADING PAINFUL?

Microblading can sting a little from time to time but it isn’t really painful. It causes a scratching sensation, which is more noticeable to some people than to others. We use a numbing ointment to minimize any discomfort you might feel during the procedure. The blade can make tiny scratching sounds, which some people find a little unsettling – but it is not a painful procedure.

DO I NEED TO BOOK IN FOR A CONSULTATION?

Yes, it is much better to have a consultation before going ahead with a new treatment. This ensures we can understand your requirements and give you any advice you might need ahead of the appointment. This way there will be nothing overlooked and you should achieve the result you desire on the day of your appointment.

CAN YOU DO MICROBLADE COVER UPS?

Yes, it is possible to re-do a previous tattoo or microblading. It is necessary for the previous ink to have faded enough that the microblading hair strokes will be visible and look natural. Please email us a photo of your current eyebrow tattoo before booking in so that we can assess whether this treatment is right for you.

WHEN WILL MY EYEBROWS HEAL AFTER MICROBLADING?

It usually takes between 10 days and 2 weeks for microblading to heal. While they are healing you should keep them clean and dry - so no water should touch them. The same goes for steam and sweat, so it is better not to exercise, and to stay away from steam rooms and saunas.

Once they have scabbed over, and the scabs have fallen off, your brows will look a little lighter for a while. After around 4 weeks the new colour should be fully visible. Following the aftercare advice will mean your microblading treatment shouldn’t be particularly noticeable and you can go out in public.

HOW LONG DOES THE MICROBLADING TAKE?

Depending on how much reshaping your brows need, you could be with us for between 2 and 3 hours. During this time we will carefully measure and mark your brows to ensure optimal positioning. We will also take care to pick the best colour to match your skin tone and the look you want to achieve.

HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?

Microblading usually lasts for between 1 to 2 years, but this can depend on various factors, such as your skin type and how well you look after your microbladed brows.

Although this is essentially a tattoo, and therefore considered permanent, the reality is that microbladed eyebrows tend to fade over time. You will probably need a top up after 12 months up to 18 months, depending on how well the ink has lasted.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY MICROBLADING APPOINTMENT?

We recommend the following:

No exercise for 48 hours before the appointment.

For at least 2 weeks before the treatment, stop using any of the following products:

  • Retinol

  • Glycolic acid

  • Benzoyl peroxide

  • Salicylic acid

  • Alpha hydroxyls

  • Chemical anti-aging exfoliants

  • Eyebrow growth serums

  • Brightening skin care products

  • Botox and dermal fillers

The above products cause the skin to thin, which can affect the healing process and therefore the end result. Note that products designed for youth, repair, anti-aging, wrinkles, acne, tone correcting, brightening, etc. tend to contain these kinds of ingredients. If any of your products do, please avoid putting them on your face for at least 4 weeks before your appointment.

Please also stay away from tanning beds for two weeks before the treatment, as when burned skin sheds it will remove the pigment.

For 24 hours before your appointment, please don’t take any of the following products:

  • Aspirin, Ibuprofen and other pain killers

  • Blood thinning supplements (e.g. garlic, turmeric, vitamin E, fish oils)

  • Alcohol

On the morning of your appointment, don’t have any caffeinated drinks.

We also recommend that you don’t wax, tint or thread your eyebrows for a week before the treatment. If you want to pencil in your eyebrows as you would like the finished microblading result to be, this will give us some insight into your desired look.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT JUST AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Your brows will look beautiful immediately, but you can expect them to get a little darker over the next days as scabs start to form. It is not usual for bruising to appear, and swelling should be minimal, if there is any at all. So you can go about your day as normal, while being sure to follow the aftercare advice.

Microblading usually results in more natural looking, fuller eyebrows. At first they will seem to be a bit darker until the scabs fall off. Your brows will then gradually fade somewhat over the following couple of weeks.

Please note that every client heals differently because of skin type, lifestyle and aftercare adherence, so results can vary – they cannot be guaranteed. Don’t forget that you will need a second touch-up appointment to ensure pigment is retained optimally.

WHICH PRODUCTS SHOULD I AVOID AFTER THE MICROBLADING PROCEDURE?
  • Retinols, glycolic acids, lactic acid, AHAs, or salicylic acid

  • Peroxide or Neospirin

  • Brow makeup (for 2 weeks)

  • Dye (for 10 days)

  •

  • It is also important not to:

  •

  • Pick, scrub or tweeze your brows (tweezing is OK after 10 days)

  • Go on tanning beds or sit in the sun (for 3 – 4 weeks)

  • Work out or sweat (for 2 weeks)

  • Sleep on your face (for 2 weeks)

  • Go in a steam room, sauna, pool, hot tub, hot shower or bath (for 2 weeks)

WHO IS MICROBLADING NOT SUITABLE FOR?
  • Under 18s

  • Pregnant or nursing women (for up to 3 months after nursing)

Nor is it suitable for anyone using:

  • Skin care products containing retinol, glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, or alpha hydroxyls (for 3 weeks prior)

  • Chemical peels or PRP facials (for 2 months prior)

  • Facial laser treatments (for 2 months prior)

  • Botox (for 2 weeks prior)

  • Accutane (for 1 year prior)

  • Antibiotics (for 1 month prior)

Nor is it suitable for anyone with problems such as:

  • Diabetes (without Doctor’s clearance)

  • A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring

  • A history of Epilepsy, MRSA, or lupus

  • Viral infections or diseases

  • Pacemaker or major heart problems

  • Skin irritations or psoriasis near the brow area (including rashes, sunburn)

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure

  • Skin problems such as acne, or bumps over the forehead or brow area

  • Poor general health

Nor is it suitable for anyone who is having, or has had:

  • Chemotherapy (for up to 1 year prior, and Doctor's clearance is required)

  • An organ transplant

  • Allergies to epinephrine, dermacaine, benzyl alcohol, lidocaine, or tetracaine

PLEASE NOTE: The results are natural, fuller looking eyebrows. Initially, the brows may appear darker but fade significantly over the first two weeks. Although our cosmetic tattoo artist uses premium products and provide exceptional service, all clients heal differently, and many factors lead to varied results. It is crucial to have a microblading touch-up done, as it is very difficult to predict how well your skin will retain the pigment. Due to this and other varying factors, we cannot guarantee your results.
